A strong question stands, do Christians let the events of prophecy play out around them or should they take a stand against the work of the evil one in the faith? Many would say that the events that are happening today in Christ's Body were pre-destined by God and must happen in order for this age to end and for Christ to return. But aside from the events that will happen, does God expect us to still stand up for our faith against those predicted by the Gospel ? :
"Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves"
Matthew 7:15 (NIV)
"For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform great signs and wonders, so as to lead astray, if possible, even the elect."
Matthew 24:24 (NIV)
The false prophets that Christ has told generations of believers about through the scriptures have arrived in our generation. Millions of today's Christians have flocked to a gospel that promotes power, possession and wealth. The world's society has set the stage for people's acceptance of a faith that requires no sacrifice, no obligations and promises all of God's blessings for the simple price of fundamental belief. Preachers such as Joel Osteen, TD Jakes, Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar and many others lead mega-churches of thousands of people to believe that God is a God of blessings instead of a God of sacrifice and obedience. But the very name they call on for blessings requires a completely different set of actions from them than what is told to them by these false teachers:
"Then he said to them all: "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it and whoever loses his life for my sake will save it."
Luke 9:23 (NIV)
"No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."
Luke 9:62 (NIV)
Today's profit gospel excludes these core teachings taught by Christ himself. They lull people into a sense of entitlement and address only the blessings God gives man instead of the deep level of sacrifice Christ requires of us here on earth. False prophets understand that our society has become so lazy and technologically advanced that personal effort and a strong work ethic have become traits of the past. This new gospel was timed perfect by the evil one in order to distort and lead Christ's followers away from the true Christian life and into a life where followers will never experience the true Christ and all of his goodness. The enemies plan all along has to been to destroy man and even for those who have been saved, he feels he can still can do damage by distorting and perverting Christ's church.
In order to follow Christ correctly, we have to follow him by every command he gives.
1 Peter says:
"To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example that you should follow in his steps."
1 Peter 2:21 (NIV)
And Paul tells us:
"For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him"
Philippians 1:24
"And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come."
Hebrews 13 :12-14
The relationship between God and man has always been clearly based on sacrifice. This began when God required blood sacrifice for atonement of sin in Old Testament times, later through Christ as the final sacrifice for all sins and it continues today as were are required to sacrifice this worldly life to become more Christ-like. Those who don't follow Christ's words miss the true relationship God wants to have with his creation. He commands us to sacrifice not be a punishing figure but instead, for us to allow him to provide the very best in our lives.
It is simply not enough to "become saved" in order to obey God and follow Christ. Christ tells us how we are to bear good fruit as followers. He states:
"Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them."
Matthew 7:17-20
Preachers who preach messages of personal development and personal gain promote "bad fruit" within their followers. Unknowingly, Christians are told that God wants to bless them abundantly if only they will obey and let him. But God does not seek material wealth for his children as much as he seeks a relationship through obedience and prayer. Through the sacrifice of his son he shows us how much he longs for the relationship he once has with us in the Garden of Eden before sin entered our lives.
"Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden."
Genesis 3:8
So what's at stake if we don't act? What will people miss if we as Christians don't educate followers of false gospels as to the truth they are lacking?
They will miss rewards in heaven:
"If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames."
1 Corinthians 3:12-15
They will miss sitting with Christ as he rules from his throne:
"Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother[a] or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life."
Matthew 19:28-29
The bottom line is that there is too much at stake not to act. We as Christians have an obligation to educate one another as to the True Gospel of Christ. Christ explains that we will be judged by the measure we judge others but we will also be held accountable for the actions or inactions we took when dealing with fellow Christian brother's and sister's eternal destinies. Understand that we get only one shot at this life. When our hearts stop beating, everything we have done or not done will be carved in stone and written in God's book of holy judgment. 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 tells us that we indeed will be saved but The Bible is clear that we will not all experience God's Kingdom the same as some will bear works that will pass the test of fire and many others won't. Personal development and personal gain in this life are just not worth it compared to the treasure God has in store for us in heaven:
"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
Matthew 6:19-21
We are dealing with people's eternal destinies here. What's at stake? Just about everything!
